Bolton Mediation was first established in 1991 as Bolton Neighbour Dispute Service. Since then, it has developed into a diverse, community mediation service offering mediation and conflict interventions in every area of the community.

Details of two neighbours were sent to our service by an Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Officer. The case involved two men who lived in flats, one above the other with the downstairs neighbour complaining about noise from the upstairs flat.

Details of 2 couples living next door to each other were referred to our service for mediation.

The main issues were verbal abuse, gossiping with other neighbours and an accusation of a camera placed in Party 1’s property which led to Party 2 accusing Party 1 of ‘spying on them’.

85% of cases referred to us result in realistic lasting agreement

Our Projects

Neighbours

Our neighbour dispute mediation service works with neighbours who have fallen out and are experiencing difficulties communicating. Typical cases involve noise, parking, boundaries and pets and our mediators provide an impartial, confidential service to all involved to support them to reach agreement and move on

Workplace

Workplace Mediation works with individuals, groups and whole teams in dispute in the workplace by offering mediation, training, coaching and consultancy in conflict resolution. Our mediators work with issues including communication difficulties, personality clashes, bullying / harassment and changing work practices

Schools

Medi8, our Schools Mediation project, works with young people in conflict within schools to resolve disputes and increase pupils’ conflict awareness and ability to deal with their own conflict. We use a restorative approach to provide a systemic support to entire schools wishing to transform the ways in which conflict is dealt with.

Safer Communities

Safer Communities Mediation works with whole communities to reduce anti-social behaviour. The project provides inter-generational conflict interventions to young people and adults of all ages where there are disputes, misunderstandings and lack of communication.

Family

Launched in 2004, Time 2 Talk, our family mediation service, works with families experiencing a wide range of difficulties in dealing with conflict.

Victim / Offender

Victim / Offender Mediation (VOM) works with young people who have committed crimes and the victims of their offences. Using restorative approaches, our mediators support the people affected by crime to understand the situation better and to communicate with each other, whether directly or indirectly.
